The
Dreambuilder Celebration was founded in 1996
with the dream of creating a scriptwriting
competition for minority writers, to result
in a locally-produced dramatic movie. Today
it's a year-round program including
seventeen distinct components providing
opportunity for those with dreams of entering
or furthering their careers in the industry.
But it really started before that. In fact,
it may have started in 1991 with the dedication
of the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. We
asked ourselves, "What could we do
to be part of building the dream?"
| |
Our
community wanted diverse programming |
| |
Diverse
employees and voices were absent
in the industry |
| |
We
wanted to be closer to and more involved
in the community |
What if we
| |
Invited
local writers to enter their words in
a script writing competition? |
| |
Produced
a one hour local television drama from
the best script? |
| |
Included
the whole community in the process? |
| |
Provided
educators with comprehensive guides
and suggested activities? |
| |
Encouraged
the industry and the community to recognize,
understand and embrace these talented
individuals? |
The Procter & Gamble Dreambuilder Celebration
is the result of that process.
