Winner:
Howard Simon
Howard Simon's love for theater began in grade
school when he attended a performance of "Black
Nativity" at Cleveland's Karamu Theater.
He graduated from high school in Cleveland,
received a bachelor of fine arts degree from
Morehouse College in Atlanta and completed
a master's in creative writing at New York
University's Tisch School of Arts. Just
Passin' Through was Howard's first produced
script.
On May 2, 2000, Howard was the recipient of
the Sage Theatre/Spotlight On Award for Best
Playwright for "James Baldwin: A Soul
on Fire".
