Movie:
"Our Father"
Our Father is a story of contrasts:
hope and despair, wealth and poverty, denial
and forgiveness, love and abandonment. To
abandon is to deny responsibility. Some abandon
ideals. Some abandon other people. But to
abandon oneself is most tragic of all.
The movie begins with Franklin's birth to
a poor but loving family that cannot take
care of him. We follow him as he is adopted
by a wealthy family. We watch him grow to
become a financial success and loving father.
Franklin has never been happy as a son. He
has worked hard for his father's approval
but cannot understand why it has eluded him.
The story illustrates the role of that relationship
in determining Franklin's self-image and how
abandonment ultimately shaped his entire life.
Our Father is a moving story of compassion
and forgiveness.
